Financial stress is having a major effect on relationships. A recent survey has shown that as a cause of relationship stress, its impact has more than doubled in two years.
Relationships Australia's annual Relationships Indicators Survey has found financial concerns are taking a heavy toll, especially in light of the global economic instability.
Of the 1,200 adults surveyed in Australia, 40 per cent cited money concerns as a major pressure on their relationship. This figure was up 18 per cent from 2006's survey. It seems that women are more concerned about money issues than men too. Relationships Australia Vice President Anne Hollonds said.
"While 37 per cent of women rate financial woes as a cause of relationship splits involving them or people around them, only 30 per cent of men express the same view,"
However finance wasn't the only issue for those surveyed by Relationships Australia, with 55 per cent saying different goals and expectations were a problem, while 53 per cent who were worried about lack of time spent together.
Overall though, stress ranked the highest strain on relationships, with 68 per cent identifying it as a negative factor.
