Coming up in May in WorkLife Essentials®

Our May Promotion is all about returning to work. Traditionally in the work life arena this topic has been focused around returning to work after becoming a mother or father, see "Returning to Work After Your Parental Leave", but there are a lot of circumstances now which create the situation where a valued employee is returning to the workplace. Accomplishing this successfully requires a range of strategies depending on the circumstances of the company, the individual, and their support systems. We have added a few new suggested readings to help this month, which will be highlighted when you enter WorkLife Essentials® and click on the "Returning to Work" topic. These cover Returning to Work after illness, disability, childbirth and trauma.

It takes a lot of organization and planning to make the adjustment easier on yourself and your family when you are considering going back to work. "After School Activites and Free Time" will be impacted, as well as issues around "Sharing Household Responsibilities". Do you need more help at home? We have a range of helpful resources. Type "domestic" into the Search box and click the Search button!

It may be that you are considering returning to work after any number of events not related to childbirth or maternity leave, so considering the "Role of Work in Your Life After 50" may be relevant.

For those of you who are considering the impact of childbirth or have to make a decision about whether to return to work or be a stay at home parent, the following resources will be helpful: "Choosing the "Right" Time to Start a Family"; "Motherhood and Career"; and "Motherhood and Career: Challenges and Choices"

Other circumstances which may be important are, after a new marriage with step-children, or after adoption so please see "Adjusting to Stepfamily Life" and "Exploring Adoption". Again there are a range of additional resources available for these which can be found using our Search box, with terms such as "adopt", or by using our SmaRT II Resource Tool to help identify scenarios that apply to the situation you are in.
